Which one? · 3 minute read
A subdomain, your root domain, or a folder?
Your pages can live in three kinds of place. Most teams should pick the first.
| Question | Subdomain | Root domain | Folder on your site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Looks like | go.yourbrand.com/offer | yourbrand.com/offer | www.yourbrand.com/lp/offer |
| Setup | One record | Two records | A rule on your current site |
| Who does it | Anyone with access to your domain settings | Anyone with access to your domain settings | The person who runs your website |
| Your current site | Stays as it is | Is replaced | Stays as it is |
| Search | Its own address | The whole domain | Shares your main site's standing |
Pick a subdomain if you're not sure
It takes minutes, needs no engineering, and doesn't touch your main site. This is the right choice for most teams.
Pick a root domain for a whole new site
A domain bought for one product or campaign, where Coframe runs everything. Coframe serves every page on it, so your current site can't stay there.
Pick a folder to share your main site's search standing
Pages under your main site's address may rank more easily. But it needs a change on the platform that runs your website. And your pages depend on that site being up.
You can have more than one
Each published page appears at its path on every domain you connect.
