A test or a router?
Both show different visitors different pages at one address. A test chooses at random, to learn. A router chooses by rule, to fit.
| Question | Test | Router |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees what | Chosen at random | Chosen by a rule you set |
| What it's for | Learning which page converts better | Showing the right page to each kind of visitor |
| When it ends | When one variant is very likely the best | It doesn't. It keeps routing |
| Set it up in | The page's row: Start test | Site settings › Routers |
Use a test to learn
You don't know which headline works better. Let visitors decide. See Run a test.
Use a router to fit
You already know who should see what:
One ad link that shows a different page for each keyword.
A local page for visitors from a given country.
A shorter page for phones.
A router has its own address. It checks each visitor against your rules, in order, and shows the first match. A default page catches everyone else.
Rules can look at the link's ad tags, the device, the country or city, the language, and whether the visitor has been before.
Use both
Route each segment to its page, then test inside each page.
